An online toolkit for reviving your self taping process
This is not a course teaching you, ‘How to act’. There are already plenty of amazing courses out there that do that.
MAP for Actors is different.
Specifically designed to unstick the stuck feeling when you’re at home by yourself, trying to put a tape down but are feeling uninspired, lost or bored. Dive into over 25 succinct, practical video tips designed to re-inspire, re-connect and reenergise your:
Mindset
Action
Process
when tackling self tapes.
Yes, see what I did there? M.A.P…? And let’s be honest, sometimes we can all feel a little lost in this craft, so here are some routes out. [An acronym and a metaphor - buckle in!]
There’s also a downloadable print resource if you’re the kind of person that likes to stick reminders on your wall or mirror.
“I was working with Julia on a couple of tapes and what she unlocked in the scenes in a short amount of time was incredible. She gave me permission to be brave, joyful, irreverent and fierce. She drew me out of habits and into a space that is honest and playful. If you want your work to get to that next level - she'll take you there.”

97% of all round one auditions are now via self tape submissions
An audition comes through (yay!) or you finally get round to putting together a tape library to send to agents or casting directors.
You’ve found the perfect wardrobe for the role, you’ve got a reader, your ring light is ready to go, your lines are down…but then you watch your tapes back and they seem a little…boring…de-energised…or maybe you can’t even tell what’s gone wrong, but it’s not what you thought you were filming when you were in front of the camera (let’s be real: your phone).
Most of the time, it’s not about whether you can act or not, it’s about finding flow, creativity and getting out of your way when you’ve been at work all day, you’re alone in your one bedroom apartment with your friend on zoom reading for you, and the tape is due in the morning.
Knowing how to re-energise your tapes, make bold choices and take ownership over your artistry is key to producing a unique performance.
MAP for Actors
is divided into three modules so you can target the specific hurdle you’re experiencing.
mindset
Stuck in your head? Step into my office. It doesn’t matter how good your tape is, if your Mindset isn’t supporting You and your artistic choices, it’ll detract from your talent.
action
Mid-taping and need a hit of inspiration? Head here. Course correct with simple tools to bring more creativity and fire to your work.
process
Got time to play with your approach? Right this way. Tools to integrate into whatever technique you use for a refresh or tune-up.

While there are some camera specific tools included, no, this is not a 101 on screen acting. There are plenty of wonderful courses that teach the basics of screen acting.

Start anywhere, although I recommend starting with Mindset. Think of MAP as a first aid kit for when you’re bleeding out all over your ring light. Gross. Sorry.
It’s a resource for when you’re feeling uninspired or stuck so follow your gut, double back, work backwards or sideways, there’s no rules.
-
MAP is an acronym for Mindset, Action, Process and in each lesson, I detail the common Trap actors fall into, and a Compass, or way out of the trap. Obviously the treasure is you producing a tape that surprises and reminds you of what it is to be a creative artist.
-
A whole 12 months! Remember this isn’t just for auditions; if you want to work more on screen, you need to be practicing, so grab some scripts and roll camera.
